For almost 20 years Uma has been passionately committed to the path of Yoga. Her unique approach to sharing & learning is both deeply joyful and transformational. Through playful sequencing and a colourful variety of styles, she skilfully translates the ancient to the modern, cultivating a welcoming & inclusive space for all.

Having studied in a traditional Ashram in India, she brings focus to sharing with respect, always honouring the roots of Yoga. She is known for her love & knowledge of Tantrik Shaivite & Shakta Philosophy & Mythology, weaving stories into the embodied practises of breathwork (pranayama) and moving meditation, taking practitioners beyond the asana.

Uma shares her radical approach to Yoga in the 100 hour online Teacher Training Breath of the Heart, weekly breathwork courses on line (live via zoom) as well as live (in person) ecstatic breathwork at the Somers Shala, Mornington Peninsula (covid restrictions pending).

As an activist for Social Justice & the Earth, Uma is passionate about sharing Yoga as a path of service & healing. She is dedicated to giving and actively supports wilderness protection & tree planting, as well as the 'pay the rent' initiative.

Uma believes in giving people the space to expand into their truest nature; presenting workshops, immersions, trainings & Retreats, to encourage deep enquiry & cultivate the space necessary for lasting, conscious change. She has collaborated with Clare Bowditch, Asher Packman, Pip Lincolne, Mama Kin, Mei Lai Swan, Asher Packman, Mia Muse & Lucy Peach.

You can find Uma most afternoons in her garden, with her children and a pot of tea, soaking up the good stuff.

“Uma” is one of the names given to the Goddess Parvarti (the feminine aspect of Shiva), who is celebrated widely as the deity of the integration of motherhood & Spirituality - the essence of the non-dual path of Yoga. Parvarti shows us that we can both nurture others and ourselves; that staying true to the path of Yoga does not have to exclude you from a life of rich connection and intimacy.

Uma does not take her name lightly, learning from her own children as well as her own uneasy childhood - and turning the very real challenges of the physical world into potent fuel for awakening and evolution.
