At Both Yoga we are passionate about creating accessible & inclusive spaces for everyone. With a focus on Social Justice and equality, we are always looking & listening for ways to dismantle ableism, racism, ageism and sexism, as well as challenging cultural appropriation within the Yoga & Wellness industry. 

We believe that a system that expects everyone to pay the same amount is fundamentally broken, and are actively working for change at both micro & macro levels.

Using a "pay what you choose" model invites those who might otherwise feel excluded to join in, as well as encouraging individuals to reflect & take responsibility for their various privileges, choosing a payment option that is fair, just and appropriate.

Uma's Breathe: Discover (level 1) course focusses on learning about the breath and correct techniques for foundation level pranayama. Breathe: Deeper (level 2 course) focusses on learning correct techniques for stronger pranayama, with emphasis on taking responsibility for your self and practicing safely with understanding of contraindications and health concerns. 

This is important because Uma will be teaching with the assumption that these safety concerns are well understood, so that we don't have to waste time (and test patience) with constant explanations.

Both L1 & L2 courses are available 'on demand' - please contact us directly if you are having trouble accessing/finding these courses.

Uma's breath focussed sessions weave together mantra, myth, meditation, mudra self enquiry and philosophy. Sometimes these sessions may be a little stronger or more relaxing, but generally there will be a mix of dynamic and gentle pranayama, and perhaps sometimes the breath techniques will include some kundalini inspired movement with the breath also.

The Wednesday 6am (AEDT/AEST) pranayama sessions will generally be a mix of some gentle/slow techniques, as well as some stronger and more activating techniques. There will always be alternative options given for those who the dynamic pranayama is not appropriate (those with very high blood pressure, heart conditions, extreme migraines, or those post surgery or during pregnancy).
The monthly community session is a chance to come together and connect, perhaps discussing a theme that has arisen during practice sessions around self enquiry & philosophy. It's a chance to ask questions and simply be together in community. All members are welcome to join the monthly community sessions.

No! You won't need anything at all. We ask that you come to practice prepared to sit, either on a chair, the ground or perhaps a cushion/block - as you like. If you prefer you are welcome to join us laying down too, this will mean that you take the options to remain with the more gentle pranayama (dynamic pranayama requires a sitting position). We ask that you are comfortable, warm and ready at least a few minutes before we start so that we can go straight into practice. We encourage you to have a pen & notebook/journal nearby, and that you take a few minutes to reflect on your breath practice after each session.

We don't mind including your friends on the session, however it is a non-negotiable requirement that everyone participating has completed our level 1 & level 2 courses Breathe: Discover & Breathe: Deeper (at some stage in the last couple of years). This is a safety requirement as Uma will not be explaining contra-indications and important health observations for each pranayama, it will be assumed that all people joining will understand what is required and be taking full responsibility for themselves and their own health.

We totally understand that you're not on Facebook. We have tried out various other sharing platforms and have found that this one works the best for most people. We apologise if this feels exclusive to you and encourage you to reach out to us so that we can collect a group who might like to share experiences etc together via wattsapp (or something else).
